Project Brief:

During this time that the project was conceived, Gap had 7 regioinal distribution centers which handled Gap product. Of the distribution centers, 4 of the 7 were at 100% inventory capacity or greater – This posed great risk for Gap Inc. The Fresno DC was required to relieve overall network capacity and to save transportation costs.

Project Deliverables:

Facility under roof square footage of 787K and ability to ship 145M units per year. Total of 40 Tilt Tray Inductions over 8 zones. Double-Double chutes allowed sortation for units of 4 destinations per lane. Utilized a Tilt Tray sorter within shipping due to large quantity of drop points but on average 1 – 3 pallets of merchandise required per week per store. Two high speed sorters installed for carton conveyance. Large residual module capable of holding 59K cases and Case on Edge shelving capacity of 340K cases.

Benefits

The facility was able to handle 20% of total US Gap volume and service over 475 stores within the network – this was significant relief to overall network capacity. The Fresno DC was able to service 64% of it’s stores within half the amount of time as previously serviced.
